The statue of the sturdy man overlooking VÄgen honors Sigval Bergesen the Younger. He was a Norwegian shipowner and pioneer in the development of large tankers at his shipyard, Rosenberg, here in Stavanger. He built what would become Norway's largest shipping company in the 1970s, specializing in tankers and combination ships. The statue was unveiled in 1968. Sculptor: Ottar Espeland.
