Very short history of Norway People has been living in Norway probably since before the last Ice Age. One of the most significant historical periods in Norway is the Viking Age, between 800-1050 AD. According to tradition, the territories of Norway were united around the year 885. Christianity came to Norway shortly before the year 1000. After some instability and the plague, Norway joined a union with Sweden from 1397 – 1450, then a union with Denmark, Protestantism was established after the reformation in 1536. The Danish-Norwegian Union was dissolved in 1814, when on 17th of May the same year Norway adapted its own constitution and entering a new union with Sweden until Norwegian independence in 1905.
