The wedding and the wind

0

Few places are as idyllic as a calm and quiet fjord, and few things are as relaxing as drifting safely and lightly in a boat on the fjord, perhaps with a fishing line in your hand, while letting your mind wander. However, the fjord can also be cruel and treacherous. The wind may suddenly come up and toss your little boat around. Around here, a cross has been carved into the rock face. It commemorates a wedding party who drowned on their way home to Geiranger after being wed in Stranda sometime in the 17th or 18th century. The details are unknown, but most likely, the party was hit by a squall that overturned their boat and hurtled everybody into the water. They didn’t stand a chance. Nor were there any lifejackets back then, so they had to rely on their own strength and hope for divine intervention.
